Herbs can improve circulation which provides increased oxygen and nourishment to brain cells and tissue. By doing this they are pumping more fuel to the brain. They can protect nerve cells as well. Certain herbs can recharge neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters regulate feelings, thoughts, and memories. Ginko Biloba is a very commonly used herb. It can improve circulation in the brain. It has antioxidant properties which can delay the onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia. If you are weary of taking prescription drugs because of the side effects and the risk of abuse and dependency, taking nootropics is an alternative. Most of these pills are available without a prescription. They are used to improve memory, enhance cognitive brain function, and increase attention span and focus. Although there are no side effects to these medications, it is important to discuss your nootropic regimen with your doctor. There could be drug interactions if you are currently taking prescription medications.
